Bangladesh win in the last ball drama

After a fifty from Najmaul Hossain Shanto Bangladesh bowlers stepped up with a bang as the Tigers scripted a four-run win in the last ball thriller against Zimbabwe in the Super 12 of the ICC T20 World Cup at the Gabba on Sunday.

Blessing Muzrabani was on strike from the last delivery but failed to hit a maximum, giving the Tigers a five-run win as Bangladesh began their celebrations for their maiden second win on the main stage of any T20 World Cup.

However, just after a little while, the on-field umpires declared the last ball as that impelled both sides to return to the field, and as usual, Muzarabani also failed on this occasion.

Sean Williams was the pick among the batsmen to make a 42-ball 64 and almost stole the game, hitting 7 from the first three balls in 19 overs before Shakib Al Hasan trapped him run out, which propelled them to 147-8.

Ryan Burl remained not out for 27 off 25 balls.

Taskin Ahmed scalped three and Mustafizur Rahman, Mosaddek Hossain took two wickets each.

Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh lost their two top order batsmen, Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das, for a duck and 14 off 12 balls, respectively, that lessened them to 32-2 inside the power play.

In the third wicket stand, Najmul Hossain and Shakib Al Hasan formed a 44-ball 54-run partnership to overcome the initial damage, taking the side to 86 before the latter gave a catch to Blessing Muzarabani by Sean Williams.

However, Najmul stood tall against all the blows from the Zimbabwe bowlers, claiming his maiden T20I fifty and further adding a 21-ball 36-run partnership with Afif Hossain.

The Tigers' topper was eventually stopped in 16.2 overs by Sikandar Raza.

In the lower middle-order, Afif played a 29 off 19 balls to amass a moderate total for the side in the stipulated over.

Richard Ngrava, Muzarabani claimed two each, while Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams finished with one wicket each.
