Najmul Hossain Shanto ended with his career best that powered Bangladesh to 150-7 in their third Super 12 game of the ICC T20 World Cup at the Gabba on Sunday.
Najmul Hossain struck a 55-ball 71, pummeling seven fours and one maximum before he was dismissed by Sikandar Raza.
Batting first after winning the toss Bangladesh lost their two top order batsmen Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das for a duck and 14 off 12 ball respectively that lessened them to 32-2 inside the power play.
In the third wicket stand Najmul Hossain and Shakib Al Hasan formed a 44-ball 54 run partnership to overcome the initial damage with taking the side to 86 before the latter gave a catch to Blessing Muzarabani by Sean Williams.
However, Najmul stood tall against all blows from the Zimbabwe bowlers claiming his maiden T20I fifty and further added a 21-ball 36-run partnership with Afif Hossain.
The Tigers topper was eventually stopped in 16.2 overs by Sikandar Raza.
In the lower middle-order Afif played a 29 off 19 balls to amass a moderate total for the side in the stipulated over.
