Bangladesh technical consultant Sridharan Sriram said on Saturday that they want to take Australia as an example to turn around against Zimbabwe in their third Super 12 game of the ICC T20 World Cup in Gabba on Sunday.
Defending champion Australia, who suffered a 89-run defeat against New Zealand in their tournament opener, turned the tables in the next game, handing Sri Lanka a crushing 7-wicket defeat.
Likewise, the Tigers, who were demolished by South Africa conceding a 104-run loss in their second tie in Sydney, now opted to bounce back into contention as the Aussies did.
‘Australia lost to New Zealand. They beat Sri Lanka the next game. That’s an example that we can take. I think in tournament play there’s no place for emotions,' said Sriram in the pre-match press conference.
‘You can bounce back from a bad day really strongly. That’s what the boys know. We still train as hard as we can. We had a travel to deal with, so I think we are ready for the next game,’ he added.
Prior to coming in the proceeding edition of the global event, Bangladesh team management underwent a relentless experiment in the opening slot that started during the Asia Cup with Sabbir Rahman and Mehidy Haasan sending in the position.
They endured it in the two macth T20 series against the United Arab Emirates as well followed by the recently concluded tri-nation.
However, Tiger technical consultant believes that they are now relieved with their current opening pair of Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto, who have formed a 43 and 26-run partnership in their first two games.
‘We got 43 in the first game, 26 for no loss in two overs against South Africa. The opening pair looks more settled, it is giving them more game time, more experience.’
‘The more they play together, against different oppositions and conditions, they will learn. Good players like Rilee Rossouw and Quinton de Kock kick on from good starts. It is a learning process for both Shanto and Soumya, and they will do it.’
He further warned his charges, citing the stunning performances of Zimbabwe against Pakistan.
‘I think we respect Zimbabwe. They had an amazing performance against Pakistan. I watched every ball of it. The way they pulled it off against Pakistan was unbelievable. Full credit to them, full respect.’
He ended up anticipating a high-scoring tie in Gabba's wickets.
‘It looks like a typical Gabba wicket. It will have good pace, bounce and carry. Maybe a little bit of initial movement, but they are very good batting wickets. Fast outfield, value for shots. It will be a high-scoring 160-170 kind of game.’
The match will start at 9 am Bangladesh Standard Time and BTV, GTV, T-Sports will televise the game live.
