Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal would perform the same role in the approaching Asia Cup and the ICC World Cup once he returns to the side following his vacation with family followed by the medication in the United Kingdom.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board president, Nazmul Hossain, clarified on Sunday that if the southpaw feels discomfort despite undergoing the treatment due to his recurrence of back pain, they would think otherwise.
‘I am telling you a simple thing: Tamim is going to captain our side in the World Cup. There is no doubt regarding the affair,’ said the BCB chief.
‘Liton [Das] captained the team in absence of Tamim in the last two matches [against Afghanistan]. Now if Tamim comes back, then he will lead the team and if not, then someone else will lead the team. We are not sure about his return, or which match he will able to play and when he will be able to play.’
Nazmul additionally affirmed that they are ready to everything to get Tamim fit in the forthcoming two major competitions.
‘We have been doing everything for him in the last two years as per his requirements -- whether it's at home or abroad. Now he is saying, doctor advised him that either he has to take injection or go under the knife. Fine, we will do whatever he wants.’
The 34-year-old, who is currently on vacation in the United Arab Emirates, is expected to meet physicians in the United Kingdom this week to assess his current condition and later decide his next course of action.
