BCB appoints Tillakaratne as Tigress head coach

The Bangladesh Cricket Board appointed the former Sri Lanka batsman Hashan Tillkaratne as the head coach for the national women’s team.

The 55-year-old is likely to join his charges by the first part of next month.

BCB’s women’s wing chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel told reporters on Wednesday that the newly appointed coach is all set to start his fresh stint with the former Asian champions from November 1.

‘He [Hashan] will join us from November 1. We had a chat with him in this connection during the recently concluded Asia Cup in Sylhet.’

Earlier, the BCB removed their former overseas head coach and ex-Indian wicket-keeper batter Anju Jain following the women's team's debacle in the ICC Women’s 2020 World Cup.

Afterwards, they had been looking for a foreign coach for the Tigresses. However, getting no suitable candidate, they continued with the local coaching staff until the Asia Cup.

Now, with the forthcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in mind, scheduled to start in South Africa on February 26, 2023, the board appointed Hashan.
