Bangladesh national women's team began the T20Is against their Indian counterparts on a gloomy note as they suffered a crushing 7-wicket defeat to the visitors in the series opener at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.
Bangladesh amassed a meager 114-5 courtesy of Shorna Akter's unbeaten 28, and 23 and 22 from Sobhana Mostary and Sathi Rani's bat in the stipulated overs.
India reached the target with 22 balls to spare thanks to Smriti Mandhana's 38, and captain Harmanpreet Kaur's 54, after an early frustration of losing two wickets for 21.
Shultana Khatun was the peak of the Bangladesh bowlers, picking up two for 25 runs.
Earlier, Bangladesh failed to put up a fighting total against their formidable opponents in the series opener. A lack of batting firepower saw the Tigresses manage only 114 runs for five wickets in their share of 20 overs.
Shorna Akter hit team-highest with a run-a-ball 28.
The second T20I will take place at the same venue on July 11.
