Bangladesh Premier League governing council member secretary Ismail Haider Mallick said that the 10th edition of the country’s lone exciting competition is likely to kick off immediately after the national poll which is expected to be held in the early part of 2024.
‘We had a discussion regarding the commencement of the BPL in a board meeting where we have settled on starting it following the parliamentary election,’said Mallick on Saturday in Mirpur.
‘We came to know that the national poll will take place in the early weeks of January, next year. In that case, we are expected to hold it [BPL] immediately after or before January 10.’
He additionally asserted the BPL governing council would hold the players draft in September for the well-run of the country’s lone T20 franchise competition, adding that they already received a couple of fresh franchise names who will be replaced if any of the existing franchises want to quit vying for contention.
‘We would be aiming to finish the players’ draft by the third week of September so that the franchise owners can manage sufficient time from their respective sides.’
‘We have three to four interested entities. If anyone doesn’t want to continue, we may replace them.’
Apart from Rajshahi, a total of seven teams from the country’s different divisions vied in the last edition’s BPL.
Mallick assured that they would include Rajshahi if they raised the number of franchises in their next episode of BPL, adding that already two entities from the division have shown their willingness to compete in the meet.
