Bangladesh register biggest Test win against Afghanistan

Taskin Ahmed claimed his third four-wicket haul in Test cricket that powered Bangladesh to their biggest 546-run margin of victory inside the lunch on the fourth day of the one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.

Bangladesh saw their previous biggest victory [226] against Zimbabwe in 2005.

Apart from Taskin Shoriful Islam snared 3 each while Ebadot and Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed one wicket apiece to bowl out the visitors for 115 in 2 hours and 14 minutes of the day’s initial hour of their second innings, who were in a hunt for the mammoth 662 run target.

Bangladesh, who were warped up for 382 in their first innings, declared the second innings on 425-4 immediately after the tea of day three, while Afghanistan were all out for 146 in the first innings.

The touring Afghans resumed their innings at 45-2, with their overnight batsmen Rahmat Shah and Nasir Jamal, who stood on 10 and 5 runs, respectively, trailing them by 617 runs.

However, the duo could add 20 and 1 run more before they fell to Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain, respectively.

Bahir Shah, who came in as a concussion sub for skipper Hashmatullah Shahidy as the latter was hit in his helmet on the previous day by Taskin Ahmed’s bouncer, was finished with 7 by Shoriful.

Taskin then had Karim Janat and Yamin Ahmadazai for 18 and 1, while Shoriful and Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed Afsar Zazai and Amir Hamza on 6 and 1 runs, respectively, before Zahir Khan was retired out for 4 as he suffered an elbow strain from a low bouncer by Taskin Ahmed.
