Bangladesh veteran opener Tamim Iqbal is likely to play in the one-off Test against Afghanistan that is scheduled to start at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on June 14.

As per the national team selector, Habibul Bashar, since the southpaw hasn’t sustained any tear or muscle pull in his back therefore his existing back pain wouldn’t hamper him while batting against the touring Afghans.

‘Look, although Tamim is sustaining back pain, he is likely to play in the lone Test against Afghanistan as there isn't  any tear or muscle pull,’ said Habibul on Sunday.

The availability of the country’s experienced campaigner in the one-off Test turned uncertain after he started feeling his old pain in his back on Wednesday during the team’s training sessions at the SBNCS ahead of their red-ball series at home.

‘He looked okay while batting in the nets. So why should we worry?’, he added.

However, the former Bangladesh skipper further affirmed that they would assess Tamim’s injury on June 13 to be sure about his appearance in the one-off Test.

‘Whether Tamim will be ruled out or not will be known on June 13,’ he added.

Although the southpaw is sustaining his elderly injury, he has hardly been seen to skip training wholly since its inception on May 29.

Even on Monday, the country’s top run-getter was spotted attending the fielding and skill training despite suffering huge discomfort. Although it was not too long, it ought to be like other days ahead of a series.

The length of his fielding training was around five minutes, followed by the batting, which lasted about twenty minutes.
