The Bangladesh Cricket Board is thinking of two additional breaks during each day of the one-offone Test between the hosts and Afghanistan due to avoid excessive heat aiming to minimise the health risks for the cricketers.
The one-off Test against the Afghans will kick off the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on June 14.
There is a heat wave that’s going on over the country, making it really difficult to play the longer version of cricket in this weather.
Considering the difficulties and the safety of the cricketers, BCB is thinking about providing two extra breaks apart from the five fixed breaks per day.
‘Keeping the hot weather in the country in mind, we are thinking of two extra breaks during the Bangladesh-Afghanistan Test. So that the health risk of cricketers gets reduced to some extent,’ a BCB official seeking anonymity told on Friday.
‘We are prioritising the health issues of the cricketers, that’s why we have thought of doing this. Let's see if we can finalise it soon with the match referees,’ added the BCB official.
There are three drink breaks on each day, along with the two session breaks — lunch and the tea break. Now BCB is planning to add two cooling breaks to the list as well.
