Bangladesh’s uncapped pacer Mushfik Hasan revealed that he was congratulated by the nation’s champion all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan after he managed his maiden call-up to the 15-man squad for the approaching one-off Test against Afghanistan.
The lone match is scheduled to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium from June 14 to 18.
‘Shakib Bhai said, "Congratulations!" Musfik, carry on,’ told Musfik on Thursday in Mirpur.
The young pacer further affirmed that although he is inspired by the country’s pacers, he follows the South African pacer Kagiso Rabada.
‘I take inspiration from my country’s pacers, but I heed Kagiso Rabada.’
Mushfik, a 20-year-old fast bowler, took 49 wickets from 13 first-class matches, including three five-wicket hauls, after he burst onto the scene in the 2022 first-class season for Rangpur Division.
Apart from that, they were promising for Bangladesh ‘A’ in the three-match unofficial Test series against the touring West Indies ‘A.’
He also claimed five wickets from two games of the series, while being economical, which paved the way for him to make the cut to the national set-up, he believes.
‘I feel like I had a brilliant outing in the first class that guided me to manage the call. I always intend to adjust line, length, and accuracy, followed by the pressure,’ he added.
He also accepted that he is reaping the benefits of his hard work during his stint in the High Performance [HP] Unit, adding that he enjoys Test cricket much more than the other formats of the game and would be keen to do well in the longest version of the game.
‘I was in the HP last year, where I toiled with my fitness and bowling. I have also consulted a lot. I relish Test cricket a lot and will try to do something good.
