Taskin desires to play in franchise leagues hereafter

Bangladesh’s leading pacer Taskin Ahmed believes that he would get more opportunities in future to feature in the English county cricket alongside the other franchise cricket leagues although he was denied by the Bangladesh Cricket Board to play for Yorkshire in the ongoing English County Championship.

The BCB decided not to allow Taskin to play in England for the county side considering their further hectic international calendar that includes the competition like Asia Cup and World Cup.

Taskin wasn’t devastated about not being able to play county cricket, acknowledging that it would be difficult to manage with the congested schedule of the national team as he plays in all three formats.

However, he was not fully content either with not getting the chance to feature in any franchise tournament so far.

He wished to do so in the future when the national team’s schedule won’t be so packed and he will get some free time, as he looked forward to having certain personal achievements as well.

‘Who doesn’t want to play in leagues as a player? Then again, it’s not possible to go during national team commitments. Since I am playing in all three formats, it’s difficult to play in franchise leagues during national team matches. But it feels bad not being able to go [to play in franchise leagues] during free times,’ Taskin told reporters in Mirpur on Wednesday.

‘I hope there will be more chances in the future. It feels bad sometimes, but I don’t feel unlucky. I want to play in those leagues for some personal achievements as well. I hope I will play in those when I'm free,’ he added.

Taskin confirmed that he got a call from Yorkshire through former Bangladesh fast bowling coach Otis Gibson.

‘I got a call from Yorkshire. They wanted me for a long season. The board [BCB] is not allowing me. I can’t do anything now, as I have a contract with the board. I let him [Gibson] know that. He said he would see next time,’ said the right-arm pacer.

Last year, Taskin refused a proposal from Indian Premier League side Gujrat Lions due to an overseas series against South Africa.
