Let’s get the national side full of young players if we can: HP head coach

Bangladesh High Performance Unit’s newly appointed head coach David Hemp expressed his desire to enrich its team pipe-line by providing a substantial number of campaigners to the national fold in the upcoming years.

Following the stepping down of the former head coach Toby Radford from the role in the last year the Bangladesh Cricket Board has recruited David Hemp for the position in a two year agreement.

‘We have got a younger group. We are hopeful to fast-rack them to the teams that are above us sooner rather than later. Let’s get the national side full of young players if we can,’ said Hemp on Wednesday.

‘Or at least provide the selectors with the opportunity to look at these players.’

Under the tutelage of the veteran Caribbean coach Bangladesh HP unit has commenced the year 2023 by calling-up 25 players.

Hemp further vowed to provide all sorts of assistance to his charges to make Bangladesh’s senior team stronger.

‘We are trying to help players achieving their goals. We provide the platform where players can learn and step up in the next group- the A team. From that they can get into the national team.’

‘Important thing is that they stay within those teams and don’t drop off. We want to make sure that Bangladesh cricket is stronger and stronger because there’s more depth of players to choose from because of this programme.’

He also asserted to consult with the national team head coach Chandika Hathurusingha to make his desires operational if needed.

‘We can decide how we prepare players. We can doctor wickets to help prepare of conditions. We want to align with Chandika and the main side wants in terms of what players they are looking for, what that skillset deficit is.

The 52-year-old Windies coach also underscored well-mannered players during the camp to adapt with process.
‘Players have to be good enough to adapt and grow. That’s why they are here. We encourage them to be the best they can.’

At the same time he assured to produce such a skilled group of players in the camp during his stint who would be able to play in all conditions around the world.

‘We can produce players in BD who play in all conditions in all the countries around the world.’

The first phase of the camp that started on Wednesday would continue until May 31 at the SBNCS.

Afterwards it would move to Rajshahi from June1 to 8 followed by Bogra from June 9 to 26 for skill training.
