To cover the Bangladesh Under-19 team’s collapse against their Pakistan counterpart in the recently concluded white and red-ball series at home their selector Hannan Sarkar said that for now they are more focused on forming a fresh team than their results.
Bangladesh, who played five youth ODIs, have lost the series 4-1 and also failed to register victories in the one-off four-day game and a lone Twenty20 international against the touring side.
‘Since we have featured in two consecutive overseas series, we were aiming to examine our bench strength that saw the six debutants in the series against Pakistan,’ said Hannan.
He further asserted that with the forthcoming ICC U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka in mind, they took the series as a test case, adding that although they think of results, constantly, their main objective was to hand opportunities to some fresh campaigners.
‘Anyone may suffer an injury ahead of the World Cup; therefore, they might need replacements. So we provided them with an opportunity to gain international experience.'
‘We always think of results, but our purpose was to provide opportunities to some players. We underwent an experiment since it was our home series; therefore, we failed to bag a result as per our expectations.’
This is undeniable: the glory their ancestors brought for the nation by clinching their maiden ICC U-19 World Cup title by beating the mighty India back in 2020, they have wholly failed to uphold as the young Tigers finished eighth among sixteen contenders during the next edition of the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2022.
However, when the Bangladesh U-19 team was suffering successive defeats at home against Pakistan, their batting coach, Wasim Jafar, was spotted occupied with his ongoing Indian Premier League commitment for the Punjab Kings.
Bangladesh Cricket Board game development manager AEM Kaiser told that what Jafar is doing is according to his agreement with the board.
‘Wasim Jafar told BCB that he wouldn’t be available when the IPL takes place.
