President Naimur Rahman Durjoy, General Secretary Debarata Paul, and their old committee were elected unopposed during the congress of the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium premises on Saturday.
Election commissioner and Bangladesh Cricket Board director Mahmub Anam asked for names from the councilors for the existing 11 positions that include president, general secretary, vice president, joint secretary, organizing secretary, and treasurer, aiming to form a new committee.
However, none of them showed their willingness to take over the roles to form a fresh leadership for the welfare of the country’s cricketers; rather, they unanimously accepted Naimur and Debarata as the president and secretary for the next four years.
Why are young players reluctant to come to the leadership? While replying to the question, Naimur clarified, ‘how would I know that? However, I guess, they would step-up after their international and international career.’
Earlier in the day, CWAB held their annual general meeting in the presence of BCB president Nazmul Hasan, vice president Khaled Mahmud, and former Bangladesh captain Akram Khan.
This was CWAB’s first annual general meeting and congress in eight years, as the organization ran its last AGM in calendar year 2014-15, when Durjoy and Debabrata took over the charge of the body that was established in 2004.
