Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan hinted at the inclusion of Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain and Mosaddek Hossain in the squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup scheduled to be held this year in October-November in India.
Mosaddek, who played his last one-day international against the host Zimbabwe at Harare in August 2022, had an impressive outing in the recently concluded Dhaka Premier League for the champion Abahani Limited, making 395 runs at an average of 32.19 from 13 innings of 16 games.
His all-round performance with a 63 run knock and four wickets guided the Sky-Blues to register a thrilling eight-run victory over their archrivals Mohammedan Sporting Club during the league phase of the meet.
On the other hand, Mahmudullah and Afif, who were excluded following their dismal runs against their England counterparts at home in March, could also prove their worth in the DPL.
The former scored 510 runs for Mohammedan from the similar number of games at an average of 36.42, bagging six fifties, while the latter earned 550 runs from 15 games at an average of 55.00, that gave the BCB chief reason to rethink their incorporation in the squad for the forthcoming marquee competition.
‘Mahmudullah, Afif, and Mosaddek may make their appearances at any time, although they are not in the squad right now. If we play with five bowlers and if anyone sustains a strain, then who to bowl?’ said Nazmul Hasan.
‘Therefore it is better if there is an all-rounder,’ he added.
