Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan believes that they would be able to mark such a rare success in the ongoing edition of the ICC T20 World Cup that they couldn’t secure earlier.
The Tigers will start their Super 12s campaign of this World Cup taking on Netherlands in Hobart on Monday.
‘I believe that we have the potential of doing something that we didn’t do in any editions of the World Cup earlier,’ said Shakib in the pre-match press conference in Hobart.
Bangladesh could not secure a single victory in the main episode of the T20 World Cup until today, scripting a win against South Africa in 2007. However they remained winless in the next editions of the global event up to the last, held in the United Arab Emirates in 2021.
Regrettably, Bangladesh have been undergoing a continuous debacle in the shortest format of cricket since their last World Cup outing.
Within the stint, the Tigers have featured in 27 games where they could secure only six wins, and most of them came over their weaker counterparts.
This is not the end of their woes in this version of cricket. Bangladesh have played a total of 139 T20Is since their inception back in 2006, registering only 47 wins while losing in 89 ties.
Shakib also accepted the truth.
‘We have come here to feature in a World Cup for Bangladesh, which is very significant to us. It is such a format where we can never ever play that much well.’
The Tiger champion cricketer further acknowledged that they had a substantial build-up ahead of the marquee competition and were also fit enough to encounter the flagship battle.
‘We think that we have prepared very well. Everyone is fit and set to play.’
The match will start at 10 a.m. Bangladesh Standard Time and GTV, T-Sports will televise the game live.
