With the approaching ICC World Cup in India this year in mind Bangladesh batsman Najmul Hossain Shanto believes that their gleaming performance in the recently concluded three one-day internationals in England is really significant as it would help them when they take on the top ranked sides in the global event.
Following the washout of the first game, the home side breezed past the mammoth 320 runs with a nifty hand, their second highest chase in the ODIs, while they successfully defended the humble 274 all out to clinch the series 2-0 against the hosts.
‘What we did—chasing down 320 runs—I feel that it is very significant, and the game where we defended—both of them are equally important for the World Cup,’ said Najmul at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport following their arrival.
‘Of course, such a situation may appear against the top-ranked sides.’
He further acknowledged that they have been playing better cricket; however, there are still enough areas where they need to improve.
‘Alhamdulilah! Our cricket is going well, but I feel that we have a few more areas to improve on. We need to play better cricket.’
Considering the match situation for the series finale on Monday, Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal directed Najmul to bowl against the middle.
The 24-year-old didn’t deny his captain and accepted the challenge, finishing with 1-10 and removing Herry Tector for 48, that paved the way for them to secure the thrilling five-run win.
However, Najmul promised to bowl better in the upcoming days.
"I wouldn’t say that my bowling was good, I bowled only three overs, and if the captain permits, I would try to bowl better,’ he added.
