Bangladesh arrive in Hobart amid torrential rain

Bangladesh national team arrived in Hobart on Saturday from Brisbane amid torrential rain caused by the El Nino effect to compete in the ICC T20 World Cup Super 12s.

The Tigers, who are in Group 2, will begin their main event against Group runner-up Netherlands on October 24.

Zimbabwe have joined the Tigers as another counterpart securing the top of Group B.

Considering the recent performance in the shortest format of cricket, Bangladesh are expected to feature in the marquee competition with a small dream on the back of their constant debacle in this version.

Since the last edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2021 Shakib Al Hasan and his troops could secure only six victories from 27 games in the T20Is and bulk came against the weaker opponents.

Unfortunately, they continued their poor vein of form in their World Cup warm-up match against Afghanistan, where they suffered a -62 run defeat, followed by the complete wash-out against South Africa in the second and final warm-up.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar, who was the last time inclusion in the 15-man as a replacement for Sabbir Rahman following the latter’s relentless off-form with the bat, sought prayers from the countrymen through a Facebook post on the same day on their way to Hobart.

Bangladesh were anticipated to attend a training session ahead of their Netherlands clash upon arrival in the city. However the downpour ruined their hopes that also appeared as a blow for the side as they fell short of a proper build-up prior to the main event of the flagship tournament.

Now they have only Sunday to prepare them before they step into the Super 12s.
