The ongoing weather conditions in England along with the strength of their Irish counterpart, gave Bangladesh’s former skippers a firm belief that the forthcoming one-day series against their counterpart wouldn’t be easy going.
Bangladesh national cricket team, who are currently visiting England, will feature in three one-day internationals against the Irish that are scheduled for May 9, 12, and 14 at the County Cloud Ground, Chelmsford, which are part of the ICC World Cup Super League.
However, upon their arrival in England, the visitors could hold a two-day training camp ahead of their ODIs.
Although the tourists were scheduled to play in a lone warm-up match against the Ireland Wolves, on May 5, they couldn’t as it was washed out due to persistent rain.
Along with the rain, the freezing weather condition of an average of 13 degree Celsius might also appear as an obstruction while Bangladesh would be encountering the Irish.
‘It wouldn’t be as easy as Bangladesh thought because Ireland is a good side in that condition. They even defeated England and Pakistan over there,’ said Bangladesh’s former skipper and board director Akram Khan on Saturday in Purbachal.
‘To get a good result, we have to play proper cricket in all three departments against them,’ he added.
Another former Bangladesh captain and national selector, Habibul Bashar, also echoed Akram, adding that if they could take part in the practice match, that would greatly help them ahead of their main clash.
‘The series is going to be a competitive one. We had a practice game, it would have been better if we could play it.’
‘If we could play the series in June-July, it would be good for us as the wickets in England remain dry during the season, which could favor us. Conversely, in May, the surfaces remain soft and there is rain, which is challenging to us.
