Mohammedan head coach Ashiqur Rahman believes that Shakib Al Hasan would be an ideal name if anyone wants to conduct research on global cricket.
Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib, who has been upholding the top rank among the all-rounders across the globe thanks to his gleaming shows for the Tigers, has featured in this edition of the Dhaka Premier League in the outfit of Mohammedan.
And his presence in the dressing room of the country’s traditional club greatly aided them in earning a spot in the Super League of the country’s domestic league.
Shakb, who appeared in just three games, claimed four wickets along with 103 runs, which put an impetus on the Black & Whites to overcome their winless streak in their league phase.
However, he couldn’t continue his outing due to his national team commitment, as they are set to play a three match one-day series against Ireland in Chelmsford, England, starting on May 9.
‘As a coach of Shakib Al Hasan, I have experienced that if someone likes to conduct research on global cricket, he may choose Shakib because he would provide him with a holistic objective about cricket,’ said Ashiq on Wednesday in Mirpur ahead of their DPL clash against the defending champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club on Thursday.
Mohammedan made a staggering start in the last six vie of the DPL as they suffered an eight-run defeat against their archrival Abahani Limited in the opener of the Super Six on May 1 at the Sher-e-Bnagla National Stadium that pushed them to the bottom of the points table of contention with 13 points from 12 games, having six wins and five defeats.
While revealing the reason for their failure during the absence of Shakib, Ashiq condemned the lack of application in the games.
‘I think all this is due to the lack of application of our players in the matches.’
In the day’s other two games of the competition, table-toppers Abahani will take on Prime Bank Cricket Club at Fatullah Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, while Legends of Rupganj will encounter Gazi Group Cricketers at the SBNCS.
The ties would get-go at 9 a.m.
