Mosaddek Hossain Saikat and Jaker Ali each scored 63, that aided Abahani Limited to secure an exciting eight-run victory against their archrival Mohammedan Sporting Club in the opener of the Super League of the Dhaka Premier League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.

In the day’s other two games, Gazi Group Cricketers crushed the defending champions Shaikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by seven wickets, while Prime Bank Cricket Club earned a commanding 173 run victory over Legends of Rupganj at Fatullah and BKSP, respectively.

Abahani v Mohammedan

Batting first, Abahani made a stuttering start as they lost their top three batsmen for 43 runs inside the eleventh over.

Opener Anamul Haque Bijoy was bowled by Nazmul Apu for 11 runs, Mushfik Hasan rattled Naim Sheikh’s stumps for 2, and Mahmudul Hasan Joy gave a catch to Ariful Haque for 19 by Syed Khaled Ahmed.

In the fourth wicket stand, Jaker and his partner Afif Hossain shared a valuable 78 run stand to stitch the innings together and also rebound the former titlist before the latter fell to Shuvagata Homm on 36.

Then, riding on Mosaddek and Jaker Abahani, they managed a humble 258-7.

Mushfik and Shuvagata took two wickets apiece, and Apu and Khaled claimed one wicket each.

In reply, Mohammedan suffered a batting collapse, losing their top order trio for 12.

Then, banking on Mahidul Islam Ankon’s 88 and Mahmudullah’s 54, the Black and Whites could post 250-9.

Mosaddek was the most successful bowler for Abahani, claiming 4-51, while Saifuddin took 3 wickets.

Prime Bank v Legends of Rupganj

At BKSP-3, Prime Bank scored a mammoth 330-6 thanks to 104 and 106 from Shahadat Hossain and Zakir Hasan, respectively.

Their next highest 56 came from Al-Amin Hossain’s bat.

Chirag Jani was the peak among the Rupganj bowlers, nabbing 3-39.

Chasing down a competitive target, Rupganj were all-out for 157 in 38.3 overs.

Rubel Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, and Rejaur Rahman Raja took two wickets each.

Gazi Group v Sheikh Jamal

Sent to bat at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah, the titlists, Sheikh Jamal, suffered a massive batting collapse that impelled them to be bowled out for 89 in 33.2 overs.

Jaynul Islam was the standout bowler for Gazi Group, nabbing 4-23, and Tipu Sultan took 3.

Pursuing a sorry total, Gazi Group Cricketers reached it, 92-3, courtesy of Mehedi Maruf’s 45 off 55 balls.

Monir Hasan took two, while Parvez Rasool claimed the remaining wicket.
