The Super League phase of the ongoing season of the Dhaka Premier League is set to start with the tie between the two archrivals Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.
In the day’s other two games, defending champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club would take on the Gazi Group Cricketers, while the Legends of Rupganj would encounter the Prime Bank Cricket Club at Fatullah and BKSP, respectively.
All matches would kick off at 9 a.m.
Ahead of the high-voltage clash, Abahani captain Mosaddek Hossain said that they are not feeling any added pressure ahead of the game but expressed his desire to win it.
‘We have no separate planning or pressure ahead of the game. The six teams who have qualified for the last six are equally better, said Mosaddek in the middle of their training sessions in Mirpur.
‘We have been playing outstandingly in the competition so far, which has boosted our morale. I feel we are well organized. Each member of our team has a fine touch. From that point of view, we are hopeful to win the game.’
He further acknowledged that the unavailability of national campaigners like Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hasan, and Rony Talukdar in Mohammedan due to their national commitment for the approaching series against Ireland would pave their way in this connection.
‘The team [Mohammedan] has started getting results following the availability of Shakib Bhai and other national members. They have qualified for the Super League since their inclusion.’
‘Since they are no longer on the side, of course it’s a disadvantage for them.’
Meanwhile, Mohammedan skipper Imrul Kayes also vowed to win the game, although they would be missing the services of the Tiger trio [Shakib, Mehidy, and Rony].
‘We would try to play better cricket and win the game.’
‘Not only us, other sides are facing the same problem [not having the national players] To me, the backups we have picked up are also doing well. Therefore, we are hoping for the best.’
