Bangladesh look to play positive aggressive brand of cricket in WC

Bangladesh’s returning head coach Chandika Hathrusingha said on Saturday that  they are looking to play a positive, aggressive brand of cricket in the approaching ICC World Cup in October-November in India.

As per the veteran coach, a positive, aggressive brand of cricket denotes carrying a positive intent in the games to set up a nifty base for an impressive result in the global tournament.

‘We're going to play positive, aggressive cricket. It doesn't mean that we will hit every ball out of the park. Aggressive cricket means that everything we do, we do very positive, aggressive intent as well as the decision making, said Hathurusingha on Saturday in Sylhet.

‘Also it's going to be aggressive whether the selection with it feel placing, whether it's the type of ball that we decide to ball, so we want to give them that to go and express themselves,’ he added.

He further instructed the openers to maximize the fielding restrictions, adding that they must have a clear mindset.

‘The openers need to maximize the field restriction. If you're batting in the middle, then you're coming in different scenarios, like sometimes four out, sometimes five out (fielders). So it's important how you want to start.’

‘So if you don't practice that the way you want to start, once you go into the middle then you'll get sucked into the situation which we don't want. We want them to have a clear mind how they have been always regardless of the situation.’

The Tigers' returning coach further clarified that he is not tensed regarding the ongoing poor form of ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal.

Tamim, who returned to international cricket following a one-year odd hiatus with the series against the touring England and played his last against the visiting Ireland, finished with 23, 35, 11, 3, 23 and not out 41 in the six ODIs against the respective sides at home.

‘I am not worried about anyone’s [form]. I am looking for group improvement, not individual. Yeah, he [Tamim] is batting very well. He was very happy in the way we did at this in this camp.’

The Bangladesh national team got underway a three-day long training camp at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium for the forthcoming three ODIs against Ireland in England, starting on May 9 in Chelmsford that came to an end on Saturday.

Tamim Iqbal Tigers will leave Dhaka for the United Kingdom on May 1 to vie in the series, which is part of the ICC World Cup Super League.
