Bangladesh technical consultant Sridharan Sriram vowed to win three games out of five when the Tigers will feature in the Super 12s of the eighth edition of the ICCT20 World Cup.
Bangladesh, who have slated in Group 2, will commence their main episode of the marquee tournament taking on the Group A runner-up in Hobart on October 24.
‘We are aiming to win three games out of five if possible. Again, we have to accept the reality. In a tie, small things during the crucial moments make the difference. We have to be more cautious about this, "said Sriram on Thursday in Brisbane.
‘Simultaneously we have to move forward match by match rather than thinking about the result,’he added.
He further acknowledged that although he didn’t know who would appear in the playing XI, he had got his best XI.
‘We don’t know who will play, but I know my best XI.’
Bangladesh have been undergoing a continuous debacle in the shortest version of the game since their last T20 World Cup campaign, held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman in 2021.
During the stint, Bangladesh made 27 appearances in the T20Is, where they secured only six victories, most of which came against weak opponents.
Unfortunately, they sustained the same in their World Cup warm-ups as well, suffering a 23-run defeat against Afghanistan followed by the complete wash-out of the second and final tie against South Africa.
Backing his charges, the Indian coach said that he didn’t oversee any sort of shortcomings among them as they were spotted tremendous during the training sessions upon their arrival in Australia for the global outing.
‘The boys have been outstanding. I think they are positive as well. They were incredible in each training session. Their attitude, work ethics were just superb.’
‘It’s true that the result is not favoring us, but they have been learning a lot of things. I am unwilling to make any comment in this connection. However, the team is in quite good shape. They have been learning new things day-by-day.’
'They have been talking to each other, especially Shakib [Sjakib Al Hasan], who is talking to everyone. Players alongside the coaching staff putting their opinion during the meeting, which is a good sign for us.’
Alongside the results, Bangladesh is also facing problems regarding the team combination, as even after experimenting with multiple options, they haven’t yet found their perfect opening duo.
However, Sridharan believes that they should focus more on the team as a whole rather than the opening pair.
‘We have to look at Bangladesh as a team. Let’s learn how to win matches. We have to try and win the second half of the game like the second ten overs, second ten overs with the ball.’
