The Bangladesh Cricket Board is all set to take over the Shaheed Chandu Stadium, Bogura, to resume cricket in the country’s Test venue shortly, said the board’s director, Ismail Haider Mallick.
Earlier in the initial part of March, the BCB had withdrawn their association from the venue on the back of non-cooperation from the district's local sports bodies and organisers for years.
‘The Shaheed Chandu Stadium will remain the same, and the BCB is set to take over. We will resume our activities from tomorrow,’ said Mallick to the media on Saturday after meeting in Mirpur.
He further underscored the renovation of the venue where the host Bangladesh secured their first ever Test victory against Sri Lanka in 2006 in the second and final tie of the two-match Test series.
‘We have to look after it [the venue] after we take over. Then the grounds committee would decide who to play and what types of matches would take place here.’
Meanwhile, BCB’s ground committee chairman, Mahbub Anam, assured that since Bogura as a district provides all sorts of facilities to hold international matches, it is possible to resume cricketing activities at the venue.
‘First of all, there doesn’t exist any issue regarding hotels in Bogura. The hotels that are already here are fully prepared to run an international game. At the same time, we are also in a discussion regarding the provisions that came into effect recently.’
It was learned that the BCB is set to arrange its next edition of the Bangladesh Cricket League as an initial competition at the country’s traditional venue.
