Bangladesh batting coach Jamie Siddons admitted that he was not happy with the total that his charges managed in their first innings against Ireland, but the Tigers bowling effort vastly surpassed his expectations.
Apart from Mushfiqur Rahim, who made 126 runs, none of the Tigers could hit a hundred against the lowly Irish.
Shakib Al Hasan, who smacked a 45-ball 50 and anticipated earning his sixth Test ton, eventually fell for 87 off 94 balls, while in-form Liton Das was dismissed for a quick fire 41-ball 43 that allowed them to manage 369 all-out in reply to 241 that handed them a 155-run lead in the first innings.
Then, with Shakib and Taijul taking two wickets each, Ireland posted 27-4, trailing the tourists by 128 runs at stumps on the second day.
‘Yeah, a hundred percent. That's right. I think three other batsmen could have put hundreds on the board, or at least two. Shakib and Liton probably should have put the game away, but you know, the four wickets today make it look really good,’ said Siddons after the second day of play.
He further lauded the Tigers thanks to their aggressive brand of batting, but rued the premature falls of Shakib and Liton.
‘Yeah, pretty aggressive I thought. We were served up a few bad balls, so it was good that the boys were ready and willing to put them away. So, the scoring rate went quick, which took the game forward really fast.’
‘Happy with the way we batted. Four players, one got a hundred, probably four that should've. So, and Miraz if he had some partners at the end. Five for 50 in the last session.’
‘Probably the only downer on the day. And the fact that probably Litton and Shakib could have got hundreds,’ he added.
