Mushfiqur Rahim struck his tenth Test hundred that guided Bangladesh to take a 155-run lead in the first innings against Ireland in the one-off Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
With Mushfiqur making 126, his second fastest Test ton, and Shakib Al Hasan finishing with a 94-ball 87 alongside 55 and a 41-ball 43 coming from Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Liton Das, respectively, Bangladesh racked up 369 all out in the final session of the second day in reply to the visitors’ 214.
Andy McBrine was the standout bowler for the Irish, scalping 6-118 and while Ben White and Mark Adair each took two wickets.
Bangladesh, who were trailing by 180 runs following the day-1 stumps, resumed their inning with overnight batsman Mominul Haque and in coming Mushfiqur.
Muminul, who stood on 12, could add five runs before Mark Adair rattled his stumps in the day’s third over, leaving the side at 40-3.
Then Shakib and Mushfiqur in the fourth wicket stand went untroubled until the day’s preliminary session, adding 130 runs, with the former hitting his 51st Test fifty from 45 balls, hitting six fours and one maximum.
However, the Tiger skipper fell, adding 159 runs subsequently to the lunch, as he gave a catch behind the stumps to McBrine.
In the next stand, Mushfiqur along with Liton Das formed a quick 84-ball 87 to boost the total prior to a soft dismissal of the latter by White.
Mushfiqur’s 135-ball century came with just a few overs left before the day's second break.
Then Miraz continued with the steady bat to take the Tigers close to the 370-mark in 80.3 overs.
