Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin guaranteed that they wouldn’t run any sort of experiment in the opening slot during the main event of the eighth edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.
Bangladesh is scheduled to start their core episode of the proceeding marquee tournament on October 24 in Hobart against the Group ‘A’ runner-up from the qualifier round that commenced on October 16.
However, the Tigers have started their unofficial go of the showpiece competition featuring in the first warm-up match against Afghanistan with suffering a 62-run defeat.
Now they will encounter South Africa in the second and final practice game in Brisbane on Wednesday.
The game will start at 2 p.m. Bangladesh Standard Time.
Bangladesh team management has been experimenting with their team combination since the Asia Cup in August and continued until the recently concluded tri-nation series held in Christchurch.
They sent Mehidy Hasan and Sabbir Rahman in the opening slot as makeshift openers in the game against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup, which continued till the first match of the tri-series.
Following the failure of the pair, they axed Sabbir and carried on with Mehidy-Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shanto-Liton Das, and Shanto-Soumya Sarkar in the following ties.
Even in the last game against Afghanistan, they promoted Mehidy with Najmul.
‘Meanwhile we underwent the experiment that we just required. Now it’s time for the World Cup stage and we have a few training sessions ahead from where we have to get ourselves ready for the games,' said Minhajul on Tuesday in Brisbane.
‘I hope that our best combination will make their appearance in the flagship contention after their warm-ups,’ he added.
He further added that they would have a close look at the batting order up to the last moment prior to the core episode of the eighth edition of the T20 World Cup.
'It is difficult to comment right now because we have to discuss with the team management and would be able to assert about it tomorrow,' he said, adding that they still have a few days to resolve the issue. "One more thing is that we would get four to five days more to fix the team combination."
