After Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy struck a 90 plus each and Ebadot Hossain finished with career best bowling Bangladeshi scripted their biggest victory margin as they secured a thrashing 183-run win against Ireland in the first one day international at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
With Shakib and Towhid smashing a 89-ball93 and 85-ball 92 while a robust 44 off 26 balls coming from Mushfiqur Rahim Bangladesh managed their highest ever in ODIs 338-8.
In reply the visitors were all out for 155 in 30.5 overs with Ebadot Hossain claiming his career best in ODIs 4-42, Nasum Ahmed taking 3 and Taskin Ahmed and Shakib claiming two and one wicket respectively.
Despite making a decent start pursuing a sky-high total the visitors couldn’t endure their momentum that shortened them to 118-8 in 25.6 overs from 59-0.
Bangladesh bowlers, who looked struggling at the first set, turned the tide after Shakib induced the initial breakthrough removing the opener Staphen Doheny for 34 in 11.2 overs.
Nasum, Ebadot and Taskin Ahmed then joined the party to nab the Irish batsmen at the regular intervals that eventually allowed them to propel to a humble total before they were all out.
Earlier Bangladesh lost opener and aptain Tamim Iqbal inside the third over for a sluggish 3 off 9 balls by Adair after being sent into bat.
Bangladesh’s other opener Liton Das followed Tamim’s footsteps after seven overs as he fell to Campher.
Najmul Hossan Shanto who is enjoying the purple patch with the bat was bowled by McBrine leaving the side to 81-3.
Then Shakib and Towhid formed a blazing 125-ball 135 in the fourth wicket stand to surpass Bangladesh the two hundred run barrier with the former smacking Harry Tector 22 runs in the 35th over before being excluded by Hume.
Meanwhile, Shakib reached 7,000 milestone in the ODIs in this match.
Later a flurry 49-ball 80 came in the fifth wicket stand between Mushfiqur Rahim and Towhid before the former was dismissed for a quick-fire 44 off 44.
However, Towhid stopped just seven runs away from his maiden hundred.
Graham Hume was the peak of the Irish bowlers, scalping 3, and Mark Adair, Andy McBrine, and Curtis Campher took one wicket each.
