Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan became Bangladesh’s only second campaigner after Tamim Iqbal to score 7,000 ODI runs as he reached the milestone in the opener of the three one-day internationals against Ireland at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
The left-handed batter was 24 runs away from the benchmark before the match and got there in the 20th over when he drove a full-length delivery down the ground for a single off the bowling of Curtis Campher.
The southpaw achieved the feat in his 228th game while batting in his 216th innings.
Not only that, but the left-hander became the third cricketer in history to reach 7000 runs and 300 wickets, joining Sanath Jayasuriya and Shahid Afridi on the list.
Other Bangladeshi Mushfiqur Rahim is 99 runs away from entering the seven thousand run club.
