Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz conveyed his appeasement after they sealed their maiden T20I series against world champion England at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.
Aside from that, their four-wicket win in the second of the three T20Is powered the hosts to their first-ever series win over the three Lions in any format of cricket, which also greatly impressed the 25-year-old.
'It was fantastic that we won a series against England for the first time, and it was a T20I against the world champions.Feeling very goof to beat them, said Miraz after the match.’
‘Most importantly we don’t play many cricket against them in fact we don’t get chance to feature with. Perhaps this was the first ever in 20 years. It’s a great achievement for us as we won the series,’ he added.
Miraz, who failed to manage a call in the playing XI in the opener of the three Twenty20 internationals against the visitors at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, was included in the second tie in place of Shamim Hossain Patwary and finished with his career best in the T20Is, scalping 4-12, that paved the way for the Tigers to restrict them to a slim 117.
And Bangladesh chased it down, losing six wickets with seven balls to spare.
‘The team management relied on me and made me play. They felt that if I feature in the game would be able to contribute something for the team specially on this surface.’
‘I am very happy that I could repay their faith they kept on me,’ he added.
Apart from the historical win over the mighty England, Bangladesh also sealed a 2-1 T20I series win each against Australia and New Zealand back in 2021 on the same surface in Mirpur.
Miraz acknowledged that they often found added advantage on the home of cricket’s track.
‘Of course Mirpur wickets hand us advantages. Spinners are usually find assistance from the track and we try capitalize it. Perhaps it helps us.’
With the victory, the home side is leading the series by 2-0.
The third and final T20I will be played at the same venue on March 14 at 3 p.m.
