We are not concerned about making 200: Siddons

Bangladesh batting consultant Jamie Siddons believes that they shouldn’t overthink on scoring 200-run as having a competent bowling line-up 160-170 would be more than adequate to win a game in the ongoing edition of the ICC T20 World in Australia.

The eighth edition of the T20 World Cup kicked off with the Group ‘A’ qualifier between Namibia and Sri Lanka, however, Bangladesh will start their unofficial go taking on Afghanistan in the warm-up match on Monday.

The game will start at 2 pm Bangladesh Standard Time.

‘We are not concerned about making 200. If we can make 160-170, we will win more games with our bowling line-up. Big Bash average scores are not 200. Very rare (for a team to reach 200), said Siddons on Sunday in Brisbane.

Bangladesh team management has been undergoing ceaseless experiments with their team combination since the Asia Cup held in the United Arab Emirates in the middle of August that they continued until the recently concluded tri-nation series held in Christchurch.

They promoted Mehidy Hasan and Sabbir Rahman in the opening slot as makeshift openers in the game against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup that continued up to the first match of the tri-series.

Following the misfiring of the pair, they axed Sabbir and carried on with Mehidy-Najmul Hasan, Najmul-Liton Das and Najmul-Siumya Sarkar in the next ties.

The 58-year-old Australian coach acknowledged that they will carry on with their experiments in the two warm-up games against Afghanistan and South Africa before they feature in their main match against the group A champion on October 24 in Hobart.

In its continuation meanwhile they removed Sabbir Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin from the squad, adding Soumya and Shoriful Islam in the final 15-man squad on Friday.

‘We had 17 players, we had to pick 15. We made the decision we thought was best for the team. Soumya didn’t make 50s or 60s, but neither did Sabbir. We are hoping that in the next two practice matches and when the World Cup comes along, we are all in good form.’

He also stated that the team management will keep a close eye on the preparation games in order to guarantee the turnaround of the top orders, who have consistently failed to set the tone for the side.
