Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha said that since he is not a magician he couldn’t forecast the fate of the series when they take on world champion England in the opener of three Twenty20 internationals at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram on Thursday.
Given Bangladesh’s relentless failure in the shortest format of cricket, it is pretty easy to anticipate that the home side is likely to repeat the same performance that they displayed their last in the ICC T20 World Cup held in Australia last year.
In the marquee tournament, Shakib Al Hasan's side could earn just two group phase wins against their Netherlands and Zimbabwe counterparts, that stunned them from knockout vying while England clinched their second title.
However, the veteran Sri Lankan vowed that they would try to overcome their woes in this format of cricket.
‘I am not a magician or someone who can forecast the future. We are trying to win,’ said Hathurusingha in the pre-match press conference at ZACS.
Before facing off the hosts, the visiting side is lacking some of their big guns like Ben Stokes, Alex Hales, and Liam Livingstone, that relived the 54-year-old prior to their second-ever game against them.
‘They are world champions in ODIs and T20s. They have a very settled 50-over team. They are experimenting with the T20 team. I don’t think the team that won the 2022 World Cup will play in 2024 World Cup. That’s why they are trying new players.’
‘I can’t say which one is stronger. They are experimenting. They are not in full strength. It is good for us to actually monitor them closely to see how they built the team for the World Cup.’
