Shakib Al Hasan displayed a magnificent all-round performance that fueled Bangladesh to avoid a clean sweep as they secured a 50-run win over world champion England in the third and final one day international at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Monday.
With the victory, the home side reduced the series difefrence by 2-1.
Shakib, who hit a 71-ball 75, took four wickets to land the three-hundred-wicket landmark as the first Bangladeshi to bundle out England for 196 in reply to 246.
Bangladesh’s next highest scores came from Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto, who finished with 70 and 53 runs, respectively.
Aside from Shakib Ebadot Hossain, Taijul Islam took two wickets each, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahma claimed one wicket each.
James Vince was the top scorer for England with 38 off 44 balls.
Pursuing a moderate 247, the visitors made a decent start as they went untroubled until 53 runs in the ninth over
However, they lost their way, losing their top order trio in the next two overs, that shortened them to 55-3.
In the fourth wicket stand, Sam Curran and James Vice formed a 49-run partnership to rebound the side in the game, but the duo failed to endure the momentum after two overs and fell for 23 and 38 runs, that turned the game into just a formality.
The English batsmen then lost wickets in the regular interval to be bowled out for 196.
Earlier being sent to bowl, Sam Curran struck early, handing opener Liton Das a duck in the very first over before he dismissed Tamim Iqbal for 11.
Shanto and Mushfiq shared a 98-run partnership for the third wicket to steady Bangladesh's innings before the former was run out by Jos Buttler.
Rashid bowled Mushfiq, and Archer ended Shakib's 71-ball inning in the penultimate over, wrapping up Bangladesh's innings with the next ball.
Jofra Archer took 3-35 while Sam Curran, Adil Rashid took two each and Rehan Ahmed and Chris Woakes claimed one wicket each.
