Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal accepted that on the back of the quick departure of their three top order batsmen they suffered a thrashing 132-run defeat against their England counterpart in the second of three one day internationals at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday.
With the victory, the touring England are now leading the series by 2-0 with one match to spare that is scheduled to be held at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram, on March 6.
‘When you lose two wickets in the first over and the third one in the second over, you are kind of in trouble and you have to start rebuilding again, which Shakib and I were trying to do. And chasing 326, somebody at some point had to take some chances,’ said Tamim after the match.
In reply to England’s mammoth 326, Bangladesh lost their three batsmen for 9. Then Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal in the fourth wicket stand stretched the innings, adding 79 runs before they were finished with 45 and 58, respectively.
However, following their departure, the home team couldn’t build a decent partnership to pull the side to the shores of victory.
Me and Shakib tried to rebuild the innings that didn’t pay off. You know when it is three down in two overs, then it is very difficult to chase three hundred,’ he added.
Aside from that, the southpaw further condemned their below par bowling and fielding for the defeat that fueled the visitors to upset the host in their backyard following their successive seven series wins since 2016.
‘There are many other reasons, too, that I feel. I didn’t bowl well in the early 4–5 overs. I think there was enough assistance from the wicket; however, we couldn’t capitalise it.’
‘If I compare it with the first game, I thought we fielded much better than England. Today again, we were not up to the mark.
