Jason Roy provided impetus with his twelfth ODI ton while Josh Buttler concluded with a breezy fifty that guided England to seal the series by 2-0 as the visitors secured a thrashing 132 run win over Bangladesh in the second of three match one day internationals at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday.
Roy struck 18 fours and one maximum on the way to his robust 132 off 124 balls and Buttler made a 64-ball 76 to post a mammoth 326-7 for the world champions in the stipulated overs.
In reply, the home side surrendered on 192 runs in 44.4 overs.
That means the SBNCS saw its first three hundred since January 2018 when Sri Lanka managed 320-7 in the tri-nation series against the Tigers.
This was Bangladesh’s first ever series defeat since 2016 against the same counterpart where the suffred a 2-1 series defeat againts the same counterpart.
Sam Curran and Adil Rashid were the peak of the English bowlers claiming four wickets each.
Shakib Al Hasan hit the highest for the Tigers with a 69-ball 58 and the next top score 35 came from Tamim Iqbal’s bat.
In pursuit of a hefty target Bangladesh made a staggering start losing their three top order batsmen for 9 inside the third over.
Sam Curran removed Liton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto in his successive two deliveries of the opening over of their innings that stood him before the hat-trick, however, Mushfiqur Rahim cleared the next ball cautiously pushing it through the short cover.
But eventually Mushfiqur couldn’t get rid of Curran as the latter edged him to Buttler’s gloves behind stumps.
Then in the fourth wicket stand Shakib and Tamim added 79 to overcome the early damage however the pair failed to carry on the momentum after the latter fell to Moeen Ali leaving the side at 88-4.
Shakib then bagged his fifty first ODI fifty before Adil Rashid removed him.
Although Mahmudullah shared a 38 run stand with Afif in the sixth wicket stand, it just reduced the run difference.
Sent to bat, the tourists lost their opener Phill Salt for 25 after he gave a catch to Najmul Hossain Shanto by Taskin Ahmed in the seventh over.
In the second wicket stand, David Malan and Roy shared a 54-ball 58 to stitch the innings prior to the dismissal of the former for 11, who hit his fourth ODI hundred in the opening tie, by Miraz.
However, Roy stood tall against the host bowlers and added pivotal 109 runs with his fellow teammate Buttler in the fourth wicket stand before he fell to Shakib pummelling eighteen fours and one maximum.
Then a 56 off 42 balls between Buttler and Moeen Ali in the sixth wicket stand guided the visitors past 300 before the duo were dismissed by Miraz and Taskin respectively.
Taskin Ahmed took three wickets while Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed two and Shakib, Taskin finsihed with one wicket each.
