Bangladesh batsmen suffered a huge blow that led them to a meager 209 against England in the first of the three match one-day internationals at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
Najmul Hossain Shanto was the only batsman who could manage a fifty [58 off 82 balls], his maiden ODI half century, while a 48 ball 31 came from Mahmudulla’s bat before they were all out in 47.2 overs.
Jofra Arher, Mark Wood, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid took two wickets each and Will Jacks claimed the remaining wicket for the visiting side.
Opting to bat first, Bangladesh lost their top order duo Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal for inside the powerplay.
However, Tigers' other senior players, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, were unable to contribute against England's formidable bowling attack, being dismissed for 16 and 8 runs, respectively.
In the fifth wicket stand Mahmuullah and Shanto added 53 runs to bounce back in the match prior to dismissal that limited the Tigers to 162-6 in 36.6 overs.
Then a flurry 25-bal 26 from Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam in the ninth wicket stand aided the home side to past the two hundred mark before they were removed for 14 off 18 and 10 off 13 balls.
