Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha stated that they will be looking to correct their current situation and close the gap with England, as well as filling the void when they face the tourists in one-day internationals beginning on Wednesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
He further asserted that if they are able to do well against the world champions in the opening tie at home, that would boost them to do well in the next games. The match will start at 12 pm.
‘We want to see where we are and find out the gap that we have to bridge. If we do well in these conditions, it will give us confidence,’ said Hathurusingha in the official press conference ahead of the encounter in Mirpur.
‘We are playing for the national team; we always want to do well. They are the world champions. They have one team playing somewhere else, they have another team here. They have mind-blowing depth of talent,’ he added.
The returning head coach was spotted spending some closed-door sessions with a couple of Bangladesh’s young talents, such as Liton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy during their second day training ahead of the series.
Hathurusingha revealed that all he did was bring up the new leadership for the side.
‘As we know that our top four seniors have played 15-17 years. They won’t play another 10 years. We need to bring up all the next generation of leadership now itself. I don’t have to pick them. They pick themselves in terms of how they behave and perform.’
‘Litton, Miraz and Shanto was there as well. Taskin and Fizz were in the gym. They are putting their hands up in terms of their attitude, how they prepare and behave in the dressing room, and also their performance, to be the leaders for the next phase of Bangladesh cricket.
