Bangladesh’s newly appointed head coach Chandika Hathurusingha on Wednesday claimed that being experienced as a professional it would be easier for him to guide the Tigers to earn great successes in the upcoming days.
Hathurusingha, who arrived in Dhaka on Monday to start his second stint with the Bangladesh national team, commenced his tasks on the following day overseeing his charges in an unofficial training session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
With the approaching heavyweight England series in mind, starting on March 1, the Bangladesh Cricket Board reappointed the veteran Sri Lankan on a two year contract to fill the shoes of their former head coach Russell Domingo.
‘This time I know a lot of things about how Bangladesh cricket works. I know about myself. I am much more experienced,’ said Hathurusingha in an official press conference in Mirpur, arranged by the BCB.
‘When I was thinking of taking this job, I had the big picture in mind. Last time when I came here, I had to prove a lot of people and myself that I can do the international job. I didn’t know what I was coming into,’ he added.
Soon after Hathurusingha was appointed as the Tigers' head coach, there was speculation in the country's cricket fraternity that he would face difficulties dealing with senior campaigners such as Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mahmudullah to carry out his plans effectively.
However, he silenced all the muttering, adding that he had no problems dealing with them in his first episode as well.
‘I don’t think think it (senior players) is going to be a challenge. I have spoken to all the senior players. Everybody is focused to one thing: team is No 1. Everyone wants the team to do well. Even in my last time, I didn’t face challenges with any of the players.’
Defining the senior players' roles under his fresh phase, the head coach clarified that they continue the same as long as they are selected.
‘Their roles haven’t changed much. They are world-class players. They have been success in their roles. They have been performing these roles for 10-15 years. They will play the role as long as they are selected.’
