Dhaka Metro needs 39 runs to win their opening tier-2 match of the ongoing 24th edition of the National Cricket League with four wickets in hand on the final day against Khulna Division at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
Chasing a target of 167 runs, Dhaka Metro finished the third day’s play at 128-6 in their second innings with Marshall Ayub top-scoring 40 runs on Wednesday.
Tipu Sultan took 2-17 while Mahedi Hasan and Salman Hossain claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, Khulna were bowled out for 191 runs in their second innings after they resumed on 108-5 on the penultimate day.
Ziaur Rahman made the highest 53 off 64 balls with three fours and as many sixes.
Dhaka Metro earlier scored 156 runs replying to Khulna’s 131 runs in the first innings.
Meanwhile, the third day’s play of the other tier-2 game between Rajshahi Division and Barishal Division was washed out due to rain and wet outfield in Rajshahi.
Rajshahi were batting on 186-6 in their first innings replying to Barishal’s 281 runs.
Meanwhile, Chattogram Division finished at 169-4 in their second innings at stumps of day three against Sylhet Division after Sabbir Hossen Shikder scored 55 runs in a tier-1 contest.
Tamim Iqbal, who made 31 runs in the first innings, could make only 20 runs in the second innings.
Earlier, resuming an overnight score of 303-7, Sylhet could add only nine runs on day three before they were bowled out for 312 runs in their first innings.
Chattogram pacer Hasan Murad claimed 8-118 for his side.
Chattogram, which were trailing Sylhet by 171 runs, now have only a two-run deficit and they will look to take a big lead over Sylhet on the final day of their first round match.
