The Bangladesh Cricket Board is anticipated to declare the ODI squad for the forthcoming series against England in the next couple of days, but they won’t run any official training camp ahead of the high-profile series starting on March 1, asserted the BCB’s cricket operations chairman, Mohammad Jalal Yunus.
The touring England, who will arrive on February 24, are scheduled to feature in three one day internationals alongside the similar number of T20Is against the home side at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur and the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, respectively.
‘The one-day international team would be announced in the next two or three days. There wouldn’t be any official training camp, but a practice match will take place on February 24 or 25,’ said Jalal on Saturday.
He went on to say that they are also planning for the ICC World Cup 2023 in India, with Tamim Iqbal as captain, and that they are considering naming a vice captain for him.
'The BCB is planning to have Tamim as the captain, but a vice captain will be present.'
Following the re-appointment of Chandika Hathursingha as the Bangladesh national team head coach on a two-year contract, the BCB is now looking for an assistant coach.
A BCB official told New Age in the last week that they will name someone from the local fold as Hathuru’s assistant.
However, BCB's cricket operation chief confirmed that before signing with someone for the position, they will publish a circular, adding that their former T20I technical consultant Sridharan Sriram, who was appointed in the last year ahead of the Asia Cup, is also unavailable for the position.
He further defined that a batting coach would be nominated for the role.
‘We will publish a circular to appoint the assistant coach. Sriram isn’t available. A batting coach would be named for the position.’
