Mukidul starts as Comilla outshine Barishal

Mukidul Islam finished with his career best in T20s that powered the Comilla Victorians to surpass the defending champions in the points table as they secured a five wicket win over the Fortune Barishal in the Bangladesh Premier League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.

Mukidul scalped 5-23, the first five-wicket haul in this edition of the BPL, to all-out Barishal for 121 in 19.1 overs, which was comfortably chased down by the Comill with nine balls to spare, courtesy of Liton Das’s 36 off 39 balls and an unbeaten 16-ball 30 from Andre Russell that aided them to post 122-5.

Ebadot was the pick of the Barishal bowlers, taking 2-18, while Mahmudullah top-scored for the side with a 26-ball 36.

Sent to bat, Barishal continued losing wickets early, that shortened them to 64-5 inside the eleventh over.

Then, banking on, Mahmudulla’s 36 and Karim Janat’s 32 off 26 balls, Barishal catapulted a sorry total before they were bowled out.

In response, Comilla had a shaky start as well, losing their in-form opener Mohammad Rizwan for 11 in the second over.

However, the titlist recovered the damage in the next stand after Liton and Jaker Ali shared a 25-run stand before the latter was dismissed for 10 by Shakib Al Hasan.

Then, riding on Liton's 36, as well as Russell's unbeaten 30 and Khushdil Shah's 23 off 19 balls, Comilla cruised to victory.
