Due to back pain, Khulna Tigers opener and Bangladesh national team one-day skipper Tamim Iqbal will be rested for the remaining two games of the Bangladesh Premier League, according to the franchise's head coach Khaled Mahmud.
He further clarified that all they have decided is to get him fully fit during the approaching home series against England starting on March 1.
Khulna, who are already out of the BPL holding the bottom spot in the meet’s points table registering just two wins out of ten will feature in their final two games on Wednesday and Friday against the table topper Sylhet Strikers alongside the second topper, Fortune Barishal respectively.
‘Tamim has a slight issue. He is sustaining the strain in his back therefore he was given pain-relief injection in Bangkok,’ said Khaled Mahmud on Tuesday.
‘Since there is England series, which is our prime concern, consequently we are thinking of handing him a break as it [strain] might worsen if he continues playing.’
Tamim had a mediocre outing in the ninth edition of BPL as the veteran batsman could make 302 runs from ten ties at a strike rate of 122.26 alongside an unpleasant 33.55 average.
