Rangpur Riders skipper Nurul Hasan Sohan struck a blistering fifty to confirm the play-offs for the side as they sealed a 2-wicket win over the Dhaka Dominators in the Bangladesh Premier League on Friday.
Sohan hit a 33-ball 61 and his partner Rony Talukdar hit 34 off 39 balls to help Dhaka reach the target of 133-8 with three balls to spare, in reply to Dhaka's 130-8.
The defeat means Dhaka have no hopes of featuring in the last four of the competition.
Ariful Haque was the top scorer for the side, as he made a 26-ball 29.
Azamtullah Omarzai was the pick of the Rangpur bowlers, claiming 2-22.
Nasir Hossain was the standout bowler for Dhaka, picking up 4-2, and Shoriful Islam took 3 wickets.
When Dhaka was put in to bat, they suffered a massive collapse, losing their top six batsmen for 75 runs.
However, riding on Abdullah Al Mamun's 23 and 29 from Ariful Dhaka could push the total byound hundred and twenty.
Rangpur made a stuttering start as well, losing opener Mohammad Naim for a duck to Shoaib Islam, then Mahedi Hasan for 4 by Nasir Hossain, limiting the former titlists to 9-2 inside the third over.
Then Rony and Sohan shared a crucial 65-ball 93 run stand in the third wicket to pull the side close to the target before they were removed by Nasir and Shoriful, respectively, leaving the side at 102-4 in 13.1 overs.
However, the team lost its way after Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Nawaz were out for 9 runs to Nasir and Amir Hamza.
That was the end of their woes, as in the tail, Omarazai and Haris Rouf added a quick-fire 9 off 6 to clinch their last four of the contest.
The duo remained unbeaten on 7 off 9 balls and 7 off 4 balls.
