Former champion Rangpur Riders are standing before a golden opportunity as they just need to bag a win in their following game over the Dhaka Dominators to seal their place in the play-offs of the Bangladesh Premier League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday.
The former titlists are currently in fourth place in the competition with ten points from their eight encounters.
Now, a win over Dhaka would give them two more points, which would be enough to put them in the final four of the competition, alongside Sylhet Strikers, Fortune Barishal, and Comilla Victorians.
Sylhet are on top of the points table with 16 points from ten games, while Barishal and Comilla are holding the second and third spot with nine matches each.
However, the victory of Rangpur signifies the elimination of Dhaka, Khulna Tigers, and Chattogram Challengers, who are at the fifth, sixth, and seventh places of the points table, managing 6 and 4 points from their ten and nine games, respectively.
The top two sides of the table would enjoy an added advantage as the winner between them in the ‘Qualifier 1’ would reach the final, while the losing side will be playing in the ‘Qualifier 2’ against the winner of the eliminator, which would hand them a fresh chance to mark their spot in the title decider of the contention on February 16.
The game between Rangpur and Dhaka will be held at 7 p.m. after the day’s initial battle between the Fortune Barishal and Khulna Tigers at 2 p.m.
