Dhaka stun Barishal

Mohammad Mithun smashed a brisk fifty that aided the Dhaka Dominators to end their winless streak as they beat the Fortune Barishal by five wickets in the Bangladesh Premier at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

With Mithun hitting a 36-ball 54, his maiden fifty in this edition of the BPL, and the skipper remaining  unbeaten on a gutsy 16-ball 21 in the middle, Dhaka comfortably reached the moderate 157-5 target with seven balls to spare in reply to Barishal's 156-8.

Shakib Al Hasan and Sunzamul Islam were the pick of the Barishal bowlers, picking up two wickets each.

And for Dhaka, Amir Hamza took two wickets.

Barishal got off to a good start by batting first, scoring 42 runs in the seventh over.

However, they suffered a massive blow after they were limited to 92-5 from 42-1, with their opener Saif Hasan giving a catch to Alex Blake for 15 runs, followed by Shakib Al Hasan, Ibrahim Zadran, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Anamul Haque for 5, 2, 10, and 42 runs, respectively.

However, a 26-ball, 42-run stand between Mahmudullah Ryad and Slaman Hossain rescued the side and also fueled them to amass a humble total.

Mahmudullah made 39 off 27 balls prior to his dismissal by Shoaib Islam.

Dhaka got off to a flying start, with opening pair Soumya Sarkar and Mithun going undefeated until 74 in 7.4 before the former fell to Karim Janat for a quick fire 37 off 22 balls.

However, despite losing the set partner, Mithun continued his batting flair and earned his first fifty of this episode of the BPL. In the process, he smacked six boundaries alongside three maximums.

Before being caught leg before by Sunzamul in 11.2 overs, Mithun shared a valuable 29-run stand with partner Abdullah Al Mamun off just 22 balls to push Dhaka past the hundred mark.

Mamun also followed Mithun’s footstep after two overs, as Sunzamul impelled him to give a catch to Iftikhar for 26 off 21 balls by Sunzamul.

Nasir and Blake then added a stormy 19-ball 29 in the fourth wicket to secure their third victory of the meet.
