Bangladesh technical consultant Sridharan Sriram requested the Tigers fans to have patience prior to the clash against New Zealand in their third game of the tri-nation series at Hagley Oval on Wednesday.
The match will start at 8am Bangladesh Standard Time.
‘We just want to keep patience. We have got the core squad that is really going to do well in the future and we look forward to the World Cup and we will definitely make Bangladesh proud with the brand of cricket we are going to play,’ he said following the day’s training session in Lincoln.
Bangladesh suffered two consecutive losses in the ongoing tri-nation series, seemingly knocking them out of contention for the final, which begins on October 14, as their remaining counterparts, Pakistan and New Zealand, each resistered two and one victories respectively to secure a place in the title decider.
Considering the situation, if the Tigers want to overcome their current woes and boost the side ahead of the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup starting in the next week in Australia, they need to earn at least a victory from their next two matches.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan stepped up on Tuesday to accomplish the goal and motivate the team by taking a few of his teammates to the Hagley Oval.
The southpaw also oversaw advising his teammates the next day during a training session prior to their match against the Kiwis, which made Sridharan very happy.
‘In international cricket, we are bound to have ups and lows. I think we have got to get steady through the ups and lows,’ he said.
‘Shakib has been brilliantly keeping this environment. He is taking the boys out. He is always chatting with them. He has a very clear plan on how he wants to take his team forward.’
He also promised to provide all support to the Tiger skipper in this connection.
‘He has all our support. We just want him to let him run the team and we will support him from our end.’
Despite losing the opening two ties of the multi-nation tournament, the veteran India coach found ample positives among his charges with Yasir Ali and Nurul Hasan playing roles as finishers smacking 42 off 21 balls and 25 off 12 balls, respectively, while the pace battery also executed well.
‘There has been a lot of improvement in what we have shown. The way Rabbi [Yasir Ali] finished off against Haris Rouf and the way Nurul finished off were definitely positive signs, as he is one of the best bowlers in the world. So they should take a lot of confidence from that.’
‘Pace bowlers, they are executing a lot better. Taskin the way he bowled in the first game and in the second game Shoriful coming in bowling hard lengths to final and Hasan back after injury in the way he bowled in the last two games is huge positive.’
