After Anamul Haque Bijoy set the tone by hitting a windy fifty Karim Janat could hold the nerve in the tail as Fortune Barishal sealed a three wicket win against the Chattogram Challengers at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
With Bijoy smacking a 50 ball 78 and Karim pummeling a 12-ball 31, Barishal reached the challenging 171-7 hunt with four balls to spare, chasing down 168-6 by Chattogram.
Nihaduzzaman was the standout bowler for the side, claiming 4-17, while Curtis Campher was the top scorer with an undefeated 25-ball 45.
Batting first, Chattanooga lost their top-order duo for 36 runs inside the power play.
In the third wicket stand, Max O’Dowd and Afif Hossain shared a quick-fire 42 off 33 balls, followed by a gusty 39-ball 66 in the fifth wicket stand between Irfan Shukkur and Campher to drag Chattogram beyond 150.
In reply, Barishal made a decent start as their opener added 48 runs off 31 balls before they were dismissed.
However, they lost their way after Nihaduzzaman struck at a regular interval to claim his career best bowling in the T20s, removing Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Chaturanga de Silva, and Iftikhar Ahmed for 2, 0, 3, and 13 runs that limited Barishal to 6-117.
Then, in the seventh wicket stand, Karim and Slaman Hossain shared a match-winning 21-ball 50 run to confirm Barishal's sixth win and move them to the top of the table, leaving Sylhet Strikers behind.
