Bangladesh top order batsman Najmul Hossain Shanto has pledged to maintain his BPL momentum in the upcoming home series against England and Ireland.
Shanto, who is playing for the Sylhet Strikers in this season's Bangladesh Premier League, is third among the top run scorers, having scored 281 runs and hitting two fifties at a strike rate of 114.22 and an impressive 56.20 average.
'Of course, I'd like to bat the same in the next series. Right now I am batting well, and I feel like I can make it better. I am keen to enjoy my current spell of batting in the forthcoming days as well,’ said Shanto while talking to this reporter.
However, just a month earlier, the 24-year-old encountered awful denunciation as a result of his below par performance with the bat against the touring India.
The southpaw was finished with a duck followed by 21 runs in the first two of the three ODIs against the visiting side, while in the tests he could only manage 0, 67, and 21, eliciting harsh criticism on social media.
Now that the left hander has hit a couple of match-winning knocks in the country’s lone T20 franchise tournament, the scenario is expected to change. Although he said he couldn’t control anything in this regard.
‘I don't know whether the scenario is going to be changed or not. I am doing what I need to. I have no control over social media.’
Shanto hit a blazing 66-ball 89 in their last tie against Fortune Barishal to strengthen their top position in the table as they beat the side by two runs in the last over thriller.
Earlier, banking on his 39-ball 57, Sylhet sealed a 62-run win over the same side.
The approaching England series is scheduled to start on March 1 with the three match ODIs while the Ireland series is going to kick off on March 18 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium and Sylhet International Cricket Stadium respectively.
